Powers tax are pleased to announce the introduction its new Drake® TR Series of Industrial Thyristor Controlled Transformer Rectifiers. Available with outputs up to 750kVA this new range of Transformer Rectifiers uses analogue or digitally controlled thyristors to achieve the required voltage and current profile with switched-mode technology available for smaller systems. Standard TR Series systems meet IP54 and they can be air, oil or water cooled and sealed to IP65 using purge and pressure techniques for ATEX Zone 1 and 2 areas.

Typical applications for the Drake® TR series include water treatment, electrochlorination, surface finishing, cathodic protection and anti-fouling, electrophoretic processes, aircraft ground support, marine and offshore and engine starting.

Key design features include thyristor control, 415VAC 3-Phase input, <1% output stability, <5% output ripple, Short circuit protection, Integral fan cooling, Remote control and monitoring options, top or bottom cable entry options, analogue or digital voltage and  current display. Operational safety is ensured by a door isolator, input main contactor and emergency stop push button. Status indicators show supply-on, DC-Live and rectifier fault and overload is protected by input thermal overload contactor and self-limiting electronic current control backed-up with high speed semiconductor fuses.

Standard products are available over the range 15V @ 1500A, 30V @ 2000A, 60V @ 3000A, 75V @ 1000A, 150V @ 1200 and 400V @ 500A. Output voltage can be adjusted from 0V to full voltage when in voltage control mode and output current can be adjusted from 0A to full current when in current control mode. Remote control may be specified as an option using isolated input signals from a remote computer source and isolated signal transformers can be fitted to provide remote feedback of output current and voltage.

Tim Worley, CEO of Powerstax, comments. ”We are pleased to announce this new standard range of Industrial Thyristor Controlled Transformer Rectifiers and these provide stand-alone power solutions for a wide range of industrial systems.”

Now owned by Powerstax, one of Europe’s leading value-added power solutions manufacturers, the Essex based company continues to supply high-reliability industrial power systems which meet the many challenges system designers face.

Drake® products are designed to meet harsh environmental conditions and high reliability is central to all Drake designs to ensure continuous operation and minimise disruptive and costly down-time.

Powerstax manufactures Drake® transformer rectifiers with output currents to 5,000A and output power up to 1000kVA and beyond. Solutions are available for harsh (marine, offshore, desert) and hazardous (Zone 1 and Zone 2) environments and can be oil, air or water cooled and can be sealed up to IP65 if the environment dictates with purge and pressure systems and heat exchangers incorporated if required

The main markets served by Powerstax include high-end industrial, defence, vehicle and transportation, defence and avionics, communications, test, measurement and control and medical equipment. For more information contact sales@powerstax.com or visit www.powerstax.com

About DP Energy Services:

In July 2012 Powerstax bought DP Energy Services Ltd, the long-established transformer rectifier and transformer designer and manufacturer based in Wickford, Essex. The DP stands for Drake Power and the Drake brand has been synonymous with Transformer production for over 50 years. The acquisition was seen by Powerstax as an extension to their existing product range and market address and was consistent with their strategy of moving into higher power sectors.
