Lynx Software Technologies, a world leader in safety and security solutions for the embedded software market, today announced its support for the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and specifically the Industrial Internet Security Framework (IISF), unveiled today in Heidelberg, Germany. Lynx is a member of the IIC Security Working Group and played an active role in drafting of the Security Framework.
The IIC Security Working Group announced the new the Industrial Internet Security Framework at its members meeting in Heidelberg on September 19, 2016. IISF provides a common security framework developed to address security issues in Industrial Internet of Things systems. It provides details on five characteristics – security, privacy, resilience, reliability and safety – that define “trustworthiness” in Information Technology (IT) systems and Operational Technology (OT) systems. The IISF defines risk, assessments, threats, metrics and performance indicators to help business management protect their organizations.
Stephen Mellor, CTO of the IIC, said “Trustworthiness is at the core of public acceptance of the Internet of Things. Lynx has significant experience of securing connected embedded systems in domains as diverse as medical treatment, industrial systems and connected vehicles. This experience has been invaluable to the Security Working Group as it developed the framework we launch today. We believe IISF creates a context for delivering strong security in applications developed for the industrial environment.”
Robert Day, Vice President of Marketing at Lynx responded, “The success of connected industrial infrastructure rests on providing businesses and users with the assurance that their data and systems are secure. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems need to be secure by design. Lynx is committed to supporting the industry in creating IIoT solutions that have built-in security properties. We fully support the initiative of the IIC in creating a framework that implements that vision, and welcome the launch of its Security Framework today.”
Lynx is also participating in the IIC Security Forum in Sunnyvale, California, Thursday, October 6th 2016. Lynx will have a live demonstration of their LynxSecure separation kernel hypervisor providing military-grade security to an IoT gateway. Lynx will also be represented on the panel discussion at the event.
Lynx Software Technologies LynxSecure 5.3 is a US DoD certified secure virtualization solution based on separation kernel technology. When deployed in an IoT gateway, LynxSecure implements the robust separation of domains, ensuring that the Operational Technology (OT) network hosting the IoT endpoints is securely isolated from the wider Information Technology (IT) network. With a tiny trusted code-base, LynxSecure provides IoT endpoints and gateways with the protection they need by reducing the attack surface exploitable by malicious agents to an absolute minimum, and securely controlling any communications between the OT and IT domains.
